The blaring of an alarm clock awoke the petite and pretty in pink teenager. Her usually perky manner was a bit sluggish as she arose from her bed, but after a few minutes of yawning and stretching a familiar girlish smile spread across her face. She squealed with joy and fidgeted a little as she tried to retain her excitement. Today Tommy and she would be going on a date and she was sure he had something romantic planned.
When she finished the morning rituals of cleaning and dressing oneself she raced down the stairs to the kitchen where her mother was in the middle of preparing breakfast. Bobbing her head up and down to the latest radio jam she poured herself a refreshing glass of OJ.
“Hey Honey,” the surprise and sarcasm apparent in her mothers voice, “You’re actually awake... on time, let me guess a date with Tommy?”
“Yep, and I can’t wait!” she squealed.
“Just remember you have to endure eight hours of school before your date... Kid,” Ms. Hart whispered the last part to herself. She found it adorable how her daughter was so deeply in love and did not have the heart to tell her it was probably just “Puppy Dog Love” and it most likely would not last. Her eyes traveled down to her ring finger where her marriage and engagement rings once were. Kimberly’s father and she were the perfect example of “Puppy Love”. Throughout high school and college she looked upon Rick as if he were a knight clad in shining armor. That fairytale image was quickly shattered once Mr. Hart ran off with some bimbo and left Ms. Hart knee deep in divorce papers, not to mention a teenage daughter.
Maybe Thomas and Kim would be different. Maybe they would last.
“Here honey, your eggs are done,” Her mother said as she placed a plate of eggs in front of her daughter.
“Thank you Mommy,” she politely thanked before devouring her breakfast. Minutes later she grabbed her book bag, kissed her mom, and ran up the street to the school bus.
-----
Kim had spent eight full periods in Angel Grove High and was impatiently waiting for the ninth and last period to end. To occupy herself she played with her pencil tapping it against her desk. Every few seconds she would glance at her watch nervously chewing the bottom of her lip. Kimberly noted that she should have heeded her mother’s warning about school, the whole day had been one big drag. The fact that Tommy had not shown up for school did not make the day run any smoother. She was worried that he would not show up.
As the clock hands finally reached upon the three and the twelve the bell rang signifying the daily torture that was school was finally over. Kimberly grabbed her books and papers and stuffed them inside her school bag and raced out of the classroom and out of the building. She paused on the sidewalk her eyes raced frantically over the mass of students that were loading the busses, but could not find Tommy. A small grin spread across her face as a handsome but cocky young man approached her. He had wavy brown hair and wore a blue muscle shirt that exposed his surprisingly strong arms. He was once the school nerd but Billy Cranston turned geek into sheik.
“Hey Kim, what’s happening?” asked the young teen.
“Billy where are your glasses? Wow!” she exclaimed. Never before had she noticed he had such beautiful eyes. For all the years Kim had known Bill he had always had a heavy set of specs covering his face.
“Well,” Billy said blushing a bit, “I got contacts, you like?” he felt a little bit exposed without his usual eyewear.
“Very much so! Definitely much better!” Truthfully she answered. Her eyes once again returned to the crowd hopelessly searching for her love. “Billy have you seen Tommy?”
“Until this second, no,” the clever teen responded.
“What do you mean, until this second...?” She asked puzzled.
“Behind you!” a voice shouted and a second later she felt strong fingers gently tickle her sides. She squealed uncontrollably helplessly she tried to break free from her tickle attacker.
“Tommy!” She warned and the tickling stopped. She turned around enveloping her boyfriend in a hug. “Tommy Oliver, you know I’m extremely ticklish!”
“I know that’s why I did it!” he chuckled implanting a kiss on his girlfriend. “Hey, Billy!”
Billy Cranston tried to control his face but he could not help cracking a smile at his two friends actions. He was a bit jealous of their loving relationship and always felt like a third wheel around the two when they were expressing their love. Though he had knowledge and wisdom far beyond his years, he had never experienced the love Kim and Tommy shared. He had witnessed and ever sometimes read about it, but he himself was “Loveless”.
“Hey Tom, I’ll be going now. Rocky needs some help in math. Bye.” He waved as he started heading for the bus.
“Bye, Billy!” Kim and Tommy both saluted.
“Where were you today, you had me all worried. I thought you weren’t going to show up!” Kim pouted.
“Zordon needed my help with a few things, no biggie, I got to play hooky for the day though. Don’t worry beautiful I would never miss our date, you’re more important to me than anything.” Beautiful was Tommy’s pet name for Kimberly and it suited her perfectly. Thomas could never imagine being in love with anyone but Kimberly, in his eyes she was perfect.
Her shoulder length brown hair seemed to be made of enchanting locks in his eyes. Her body and everything about her was eccentric, she was a bit short but she had enough courage to match a giant’s. Her personality was everything Tommy could ever hope for. She was beautiful.
“Come-on let’s go!” hurried Tommy grabbing Kim’s hand and leading her to the parking lot. He walked over to his white Dodge jeep and opened the passenger side for Kimberly before seating himself in the driver’s seat.
“So where are we going, the park?” she asked, the Angel Grove Park was one of the most beautiful places in the world to Kimberly. That was the area where she and Tommy had shared their first kiss.
“Nope, I have a surprise planned!”
“Could you tell me?” Kimberly asked.
“No, then it wouldn’t be a surprise.”
“Tommy, please!” she begged shooting him the puppy dog eyes.
“Nope, sorry Kim but no amount of pouting is going to make me give on this secret.” Tommy turned on the keys, the engine roared as he left the campus.
The rest of the drive was pretty much casual, with no interesting details. Conversation was swapped, and kisses were shared. Kimberly was too busy chattering to notice they had left Angel Grove a long while ago.
“We’re here,” Tommy announced. Kimberly’s eyes lit up with delight as she recognized the building before her.
“Oh, my god!” She said. “Tommy how are you going to pay for this?” she asked dubiously. In front of her was the “Crane’s Heart” restaurant. This hall of dining was the most upper class of all restaurants, famous celebrities often dining on their menus. Not only was it a place to eat but they had live performers every half an hour stunts, dances, and singers were accustomed performances.
“Don’t worry about that. You can pay me back by having a good time.” He smiled as he stepped out of his car. Granted the place was expensive, he had to save up months of allowances to pay for this, but Kim was worth any price.
“Wow, this place is amazing!” She was awestruck by the interior of the restaurant; it was almost like a palace. Roman statues were tastefully placed; expensive chandeliers dangled from the ceilings. Marbled tables were accompanied by patterned chairs. “I love you!” She gave her boyfriend a deserved kiss on the lips.
Tommy approached the hostess who was comfortably standing behind both. “I have a reservation under the name of Oliver.” He looked nervously around the restaurant; the place was quite intimidating.
“Of course, you will be seated in a second,” the hostess replied after she checked her list. The whole time she had a “Put-on” warm smile.
Startlingly in a reasonable amount of time another hostess appeared to seat them. As they sat in the luxurious comfortable chairs the two were shocked by the amount of high profile guests the area contained.
“Look, Tommy!” Kimberly pointed, “It’s Brad Pitt, where is Jen?” a scowl spread across her face, “Look it’s Jennifer Lopez.” She stuck her tongue out and pretended to gag. She’s such a whore Kim thought.
“Do you see who she is dining with! Jenna Jameson!” Tommy was stunned.
Kim rolled her eyes, at time it seemed all guys thought about was sex. Kim couldn’t stand the fact Tommy enjoyed Jenna Jameson. She could never respect someone who sold their body for money.
“Tommy besides the fact you are goggling women on our date, this is wonderful.”
“Oh, um... I didn’t, meant to...I... sorry,” he sheepishly replied.
“One minute you’re battling the forces of evil and another minute you are cowering in front of your girlfriend,” Kim teased.
“Oh, god, don’t bring that up. If Lord Zedd or Rita interferes with this date, they are going to be sorry!” Tommy glanced at his communicator. It better not go off. He had worked hard planning this date and it would not be a good thing if it was ruined.
“Don’t worry, Tommy.”
“With you here beautiful how could I possibly be worried?” he asked reaching over the table and kissing the love of his life.
Romantic banter passed back and forth between the two young lovers. Unknown to them a creature spied on them from a far away table. This creature was neither hideous nor threatening; in fact he was and is quite a gentleman. His looks gave him a warm grandfatherly look; he was dressed in a navy suit along with a black tie. He had a Santa Clause belly and a gray mustache. He was missing a fair amount of hair; actually to be honest he was bald. He was pretending to read the menu but through the corner of his eyes he peered at the two teenagers.
“Sir, do you wish to order now?” A young male waiter approached him, paper and pen ready in his hand.
“Yes of course,” his British accent was thick and heavy. “I will have the ten ounce stake along with a side order of chips.”
“Chips, you mean like Pringles?” the waiter was confused, this was a high class place they did not serve potato chips.
“No, not crisps,” The man chuckled slightly to himself, “Fries, I meant. Called chips back home you see.”
“Oh, I heard Ireland is a beautiful country,” The waiter complimented before exiting.
“You bloody twit, England not Ireland. Bloody Americans need to learn proper English, lays ptttt,” the man said under his breath once the waiter was out of ear shot. While waiting for his meal he continued to spy on the couple. “I’m sure that’s her,” he murmured to himself.
Reaching deep into his pocket he uncovered a small piece of folded paper. With his chubby fingers he unfolded the paper to reveal a picture. Comparing the photo to the young girl a few tables away he nodded his head in confirmation. “Yes that is definitely her.”
The photograph was a picture taken of a young girl holding a small rectangular device with a key inside it, she was holding it to the sky. The Watcher Council had informed him that the device allowed her to transform into the “Pink Ranger”. This “Pink Ranger” was a warrior equipped with battle armor, enhanced strength and speed, also an energy bow along with a laser gun. Fighting along her side were five other warriors, the one she was dining with, “Tommy”, was the leader he reminded himself. They were led by the famous wizard Zordon.
The council had also educated him on the girl’s personality among other things. Most of her life she had appeared to be stuck up and spoiled. Later on she developed into a strong and caring person. She had sturdy morals and was a feisty spirit along with plenty of courage. Loyal and trustworthy, you could always expect her to accomplish a task. Her experience from being a ranger hade made her into a formidable opponent. She was perfect.
The man along with the Council was very grateful she had the experience of being a “Power Ranger”. This meant one could skip the annoying procedure of basic combat training. Her run-ins with countless villains had also prepared her psychologically for it was always a nasty surprise when your “Cadet” would wig out on their first patrol.

Kimberly slipped off her pink bunny slippers that matched her pajamas and tucked herself into bed. She tried to go to sleep but was too restless to do so, today had been just ever so romantic. Finally she gave trying to go to sleep and picked up her phone, she had to tell someone about her date, and who better to share it with than her best friend Trini. Her mom would be upset; calling from America to Switzerland was not cheap. But she had to tell some about her date; it was too incredible and to romantic to keep silent about.
She dialed the phone number of her apartment but soon put the phone sadly down into the receiver. She dove her head into her pillow, she missed Trini. Ever since she had given up her ranger powers to go to a peace conference in Switzerland, Kimberly barley spoke to her anymore. Every time she called Trini she was either sightseeing or in a meeting. And every time Trini called Kim was busy with school or with ranger duties. Phone tag was all the two ever accomplished.
